The Storm Foundation’s mission is to Power Girls Forward

Who We Are

The Storm Foundation mission is evolving into a MOVEMENT, one that calls on the world to take notice of what girls are – and always have been – capable of accomplishing. The Foundation’s mission is to Power Girls Forward by rewriting the leadership playbook for girls. A playbook that calls for all girls to lead healthy lives, boldly lead in the classroom and on the playing fields and joyfully lead in their communities. The Storm Foundation believes that when girls see what’s possible and understand and embrace their power to lead they open up a world of possibilities. Through the Foundations’ dedicated and diverse network of community collaborators, focus on experiential programming and leverage of the Seattle Storm organization, the Foundation has the power to open girls’ eyes to their true potential.

WHAT WE DO

The keystone program for the Storm Foundation is the leadership academy called, Girls Power Forward. It is an eight-week educational program for sixth and seventh grade girls in partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs and Urban Native Education Alliance. This summer intensive workshop includes 75 girls who participate in programs and sessions facilitated by community leaders. In each session, the girls learn various leadership and healthy lifestyle skills from women in a variety of fields who model confidence, wellness and ambition. The program focuses on teaching self-awareness, personal accountability, confidence, decision making and other important leadership skills as well as active and healthy lifestyle habits and knowledge. This program is provided at no cost to participants.
