The Storm has partnered with Special Olympics Washington to encourage inclusion and equality for all through the game of basketball. Volunteer coaches play a special role and influence all aspects of the Special Olympics Washington community.
To kick off 2018 events, the Storm hosted a free Special Olympics Washington coaches and athlete basketball training on Feb. 13 at the Northgate Community Center for athletes of all ages and abilities. The Storm took over practice for the “Sharks” and provided key learnings for coaches and athletes including new skills and drills, teamwork and other fun basketball competitions. Coaches received education on developing a coaching philosophy and organizing a practice plan.
In 2017, the Storm held a free basketball clinic for Special Olympic athletes of all ages. Storm player Noelle Quinn interacted and competed in different drills with the athletes and encouraged them to continue working hard every day in all aspects of life. The Storm also participated in Special Olympics Washington Ernst & Young Volunteer Day on October 6, 2017, at Occidental Square in Seattle. Storm staff led basketball shooting games and handed out player autograph cards.
