The Seattle Storm partnered with Bank of America to encourage inclusion and equality for all through the game of basketball. For the second straight year, Bank of America was the presenting partner of the Storm’s Special Olympics Night, dedicated to recognizing the accomplishments of Special Olympics Washington athletes. The game took place on Friday, July 12 vs. the Dallas Wings.
Special Olympics Washington athletes were invited to a private pregame reception with Bank of America featuring a panel of 2019 World Games bronze medalists. Moderated by President and CEO of Special Olympics Washington Dave Lenox, “Victory Lap” celebrated the achievements of these powerful athletes and allowed them to share their stories from a firsthand perspective. In March, the Storm and Bank of America joined forces to surprise these athletes with a sendoff party and press conference the night before they headed to the World Games in Abu Dhabi.
Following the reception, the 2019 World Games soccer and swimming bronze medalists formed a fan tunnel as the Storm players took the court, giving lots of high fives. Halftime featured a game played by the Puyallup Vikings Masters Unified basketball team. Coached by Danny Fowler, the Vikings have played together for over a decade and have become one of the top teams in the Washington State Masters Unified Division.
