Leschi Elementary School Playground Hoops Renovation

As part of the joint community impact venture between the Storm and Swedish, seven backboards were replaced at Leschi Elementary School in mid-June. The seven backboards on campus were in need of renovation to help bring basketball back to recess.

With the backboards installed before the last day of school, Storm staff organized an assembly on June 22 to hold a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the new hoops. President & GM Alisha Valavanis emceed the assembly and put the kids through basketball drills. Storm staff also played a game of ‘Bump’ with the children as part of the backboards debut. The Storm was joined by members of the Swedish Rehabilitation Performance Medicine (RPM) team.

The Storm would also like to give a special thank you to Leschi Elementary School principal, Rhonda Claytor and parent volunteers including Ben Duncan, Jim Gierman and Katie Busby for making this possible including the building and installation of these new backboards. Many local community members joined the assembly in support of the school.

The Storm invited Leschi Elementary students and their families to the Storm’s Semifinals Game 2 on August 28, 2018, to celebrate the start of the school year and being active at recess with their new backboards.
