On Wednesday, October 23, the Seattle Storm and AT&T partnered with After-School All-Stars Puget Sound to host 20 girls from Meeker Middle School at a special StormAcademy session. These girls attended the Seattle Sports Commission Women’s Leadership Breakfast to hear stories from powerful women leaders such as Katrina Adams, Julie Averill, Pat Campbell and Anne Simpson, and gain exposure into networking and mentorship. Following the breakfast, the group traveled to the Pacific Science Center where they explored the solar system in the interactive Planetarium, tried out Virtual Reality and explored exhibits within the center including building circuit boards, learning about different types of butterflies in the Butterfly House and understanding how the body needs sleep and energy to function at its highest level. Following the tour of the center, the girls heard from two influential woman role models including AT&T’s Pacific Northwest Director of Sales Operations, Aracely Cuadra, and Storm CEO and General Manager, Alisha Valavanis. The girls engaged with each of the women and reflected on what they can do moving forward to be a better leader and be confident in the person they are becoming.
